Jar with lid. Rope inlay with ash glaze

Shimaoka was the Living National Treasure of Japan. His works have a great combination of the glazing skill inherited from Hamada Shoji and rope inlay technique Shimaoka created.
This jar shows a beautiful coexistence of natural ash glaze and inlaid blue on its surface which reminds us of harmony between nature and human activity.
