Ishida Kazuya
石田和也
Ishida Kazuya (1986-) is one of the most talented young Bizen artists. He makes unique patterned ceramic artworks, as a result of his pursuit for the beauty of clay which cannot be expressed by other media or materials. He apprenticed himself to Isezaki Jun who is designated the Living National Treasure of Japan.
Ishida has actively worked internationally from the beginning of his career as a Bizen ceramist. In 2015, he collaborated with Oxford University to build an Anagama kiln and played a role as a chief kiln loader of the project.
He was awarded in various prestigious awards in Japan such as the National Cultural Art Exhibition (2010), the Japan Traditional Art Craft Exhibition (2015) and the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition (2017).
